Drooling over sexy studs

Watched 'Star Trek Into Darkness' recently and I can't take my eyes off the handsome hunks in the movie, particularly these two men...

Teacher Appreciation Day

I am busy lately, with little time/energy left by end of the day. I've slow down in blogging and bloghopping. I'm guilty of leaving my blog unattended for more than a month; I have many things to share... I better keep the backdated stuffs to myself :p

Everyone was affected by GE13 and so was I. Then came Mother's Day a week after and today, it is Teacher's Day. I managed to bake 22 cupcakes for my kids in 2 batches for 2 hours yesterday, wrapped them nicely and wrote appreciation note for 11 teachers.

p/s: My sister said, it is tough to be a modern mom - employee, caregiver, cook, maid, chauffeur, blogger and now, party/gift organizer.

Winking Incident

My son woke up feeling a tad feverish and complained of sore eyes. I took a quick glance, saw no red eyes and assumed that was the effect of the fever.

A day later, the swelling on little Chi's left eye grew and he kept winking his poor eyes. It didn't look like any sty from my observation but to my horror, the "swelling" turned out to be a FLEA!

Eventually I sought help from the doctor to extract the flea out. My son refused to let anyone touches his eye and we had to bind him during the extraction in the clinic.

Sigh, I have no idea where the flea came from. Certainly not from our house because we do not own a dog. Pet owners should do their part to make sure their pets are well taken of; not just feed them, but groom them, too.

In and Out of Shell

Earlier I mentioned I dislike all kind of nuts. I gotta take back my words because I ♥ pistachio nuts very much (I totally forgotten about my favourite nut because I only get to eat it once a year - I'm too stingy to buy, as it is superb expensive)!

We received a huge pack of pistachio nuts during the recent Chinese New Year. Little Chi and I can't stop munching on it but the downside is, pistachio has hard shell and I experienced pain on my thumb and index finger afterwards. So how to eat with ease? >> Click on the photo to find out~~:)
How not to break your polished fingernails when eating pistachio nut?

This is supposed an old trick but I only realized it now. I'm so slow, haha :p

Lemon Cheese Cake

A stunning and gorgeous lady blogger dropped a surprise visit to our office a week before Chinese New Year.
Lena (Frozen Wings) and yours truly
She prepared so many goodies for Yan, Angeline and I; one of it was a bottle of homemade lemon curb. Thanks again, Lena!

This is my maiden exposure to lemon curb and I had spreaded it on bread and tortoise bun (mee-ku). I even bake a cake with it :D

Lemon cheese cake
Recipe adapted from here (I made slight modification).
What you need:
150g oreo cookies crumbs
80g butter, melted
3 eggs, lightly beaten
1/2 cup caster sugar
3 x 250g cream cheese, softened
1 tsp grated lemon rind
1/8 cup lemon juice

Make It!
  1. Lightly grease a 22 cm springform tin. Preheat oven to 160°C (non fan-forced).
  2. Combine biscuit crumb and butter in a bowl.
  3. Using a glass, press crumb mixture evenly over base and side of tin.
  4. Refrigerate biscuit crust for 1 hour or until set.
  5. Beat sugar and eggs in a bowl with an electric mixer until pale and thick.
  6. Add cheese, rind and lemon juice. Beat until mixture is smooth and creamy.
  7. Pour mixture into prepared tin and bake for 45 minutes (I baked for 55 minutes).
  8. Cool in oven with door ajar.
  9. Decorate with lemon curb.
  10. Refrigerate for several hours or overnight.

My kids don't like the lemony taste but I have no problem 'feeding' my colleagues and even got positive feedback from them.

Will I bake this again? Sure!! But I must learn how to make lemon curb first~

First ride, yee-haw!

Both my son and daughter are very differ in their attitude and behaviour.
My kiddos
My elder daughter is bold, loud, adventurous and playful. On the other hand, the youngest one is quiet, reserved and stubborn. Little Chi has been showing rejection towards school after one month attending it. But I leave that to another story.

Many kids enjoy amusement park, as much as they are willingly to queue for their favourite ride up to xx times. Avery requested for more and more rollercoaster ride during our Legoland visit, but one ride was more than enough for the small one.
Catch his expression in this priceless photo!

Little Chi turned stone at every steep slope and I kept asking his condition (he looked like he might puke anytime!) when we touched down. Fortunately he was fine - he refused all kind of fast and furious ride afterwards, hah!

No more rollercoaster for us at the time being, I guess =D

A Leather-y V-Day

I suppose I am the only one who buy gifts in the family - on my kids' birthday, on our wedding anniversary and on Valentine's day, which is today :)

I usually run out of ideas what to get for MM and it is easier to buy for the kids. I prefer to get him leather products and here's what he received this year.

New wallet for more prosperous year ahead!
Old wives tale says, you must fill your wallet with money for Chinese New Year, or better still get a new wallet to start new energy for new beginnings!

In return, MM replaced our 7-year cotton woven sofa with a new leather sofa. I don't have to wash sofa cover anymore, yay! It is a good trade, isn't it?

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY, PEEPS!!

Ex-Bollywood star, my children's idol

I finally met Annay TM in person after exchanging so much of comments via blogsphere. He is such a kind and gentle person, with only sweet (and not CB) mouth.

Despite his busy schedule having to toss yum seng (drink to-victory) and yee sang (prosperity toss) with his friends and relatives, he managed to drop by to the hotel I stayed à la Touch 'n Go style. LOL!

My son was shocked to see someone taller than his papa!
My daughter was eagerly to meet her Monster High Uncle but she fell asleep due to exhaustion. Avery was jealous when she saw this picture!!

I described this generous uncle as a very tall man and her question, "Why you no find him earlier?", stunned her mama. You see, Avery knows one of my Mr. Right criteria is "tall, at least 178cm" - hence the bluntly query @_@

Some words for Avery: Cannot la, my dear. Uncle Annay is already reserved by Letchumi. She will hypnotizes me to jump the Penang bridge if she finds out I'm after her darling.

My Utmost Appreciation

My papa taught me if I owe anyone money, it is best to repay everything before Chinese New Year. It is said that if you do not pay your debt, the debt will continue forever and it will be the same the next coming year.

I do not owe anyone money specifically, but I owe a lot of compassionate friends, bloggers, their kindness. I am grateful to have them for filing my days with smile, laughter, jokes, teaching and info sharing. Not forgetting all the lovely gifts showered by them to me and my family.

I have nothing in return for the generosity but only a BIG THANK YOU and only THANK YOU! I truly believe friends are siblings God forgot to give us.

The Misleading Style

The man of the family, DH @ MM likes to wear his old polo shirt, shorts and Japanese slippers on his non working days - to the kopitiam for breakfast, to his friend's house for mahjong and even to the mall for shopping. One style suits all~

We went shopping to get the kids each a pair of new shoes for Chinese New Year recently. All of us had THAT style - 'shirt + shorts + slippers' on the other day (our usual attire). Upon trying out the shoes, MM called out a sales girl and said,
MM says....
**literally means "Please pass me a pair of socks", and put them onto Avery's feet.

I was at the other side, browsing my own shoes when I overheard several staffs whispering to each other, "Dia mahu beli (stoking), ke tak?" (Does he want to buy the socks?).

Eventually we bought the socks and shoes; we know the rules - we must pay for any opened item :p
Do you noticed lil Chi's shoes' size is catching up with his sister?
I blamed MM for not telling the sales girl upfront regarding the socks, or perhaps the way we dressed was too dowdy, plain and misleading, haha!
